AATYC WorkForce Training Consortium

The AATYC WorkForce Training Consortium serves the business/industry needs of Arkansas. Collaborative efforts maximize available resources, coordinate services and promote education and economic progress in all corners of the state. The Consortium partners with colleges, universities, state agencies and other organizations to create initiatives that prepare Arkansans for high-wage, high-demand jobs.

The Consortium was instrumental in bringing the following successful initiatives to Arkansas:

  • Arkansas Rural Nursing Education Consortium (ARNEC): ARNEC addresses the shortage of Registered Nurses in rural areas and is now one of the state’s largest nursing instruction entities.

  • Career Pathways Iniative (CPI): The CPI program helps single parents complete a credential and get a job. In September 2011, the Secretary of Health and Human Services visited Arkansas to recognize its CPI as one of the 10 best programs in the nation addressing the needs of TANF clients. CPI is managed by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. All Arkansas public two-year colleges participate.

  • Kuder Career Planning System: Kuder is a customizable, Internet-based system designed to help students and adults identify their interests, explore their career options and plan educational goals.
  • Cisco Networking Academy: Cisco Networking Academy is a transformative, technology education program that prepares college- and career-ready students for the 21st century with curricula that builds information communications technology (ICT) and networking knowledge and skills.

What is workforce training?

Workforce training includes education or training beyond high school which leads to a GED, certificate, two- to four-year degree or other short-term, customized job skills training designed to meet the needs of employers.

Workforce training is geared towards four distinctly different audiences:

  1. Existing workers
  2. Emerging workers in pre-employment preparation (high school students)
  3. Transitional workers (dislocated, single parents, retiree renewed careers)
  4. Entrepreneurs (small, independent business owners)

Arkansas two-year colleges offer the following workforce training services:

  1. Provide accessible, affordable opportunities for individuals to achieve personal education goals
  2. Instill confidence and motivation for continuous improvement via lifelong learning
  3. Enhance an individual’s role, worth and security in the workforce
  4. Provide employers with a competent, highly skilled, trained and re-trainable workforce to meet global competition and technology challenges.
