VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS

Black River Technical College is a comprehensive community college serving a four county region in Northeast Arkansas.  Founded in 1972, the initial enrollment of 38 students in 6 programs has grown to more than 3,000 students (1,800+ FTE) in 27 certificate programs and 16 associate degree programs, including over 8,000 noncredit students.  The original 46,775 square footage, situated on 44 acres, has grown to 308,578 square feet and a total of 25 buildings exceeding 100 acres on two sites.  Pocahontas is the main and original campus enrolling approximately two-thirds of our students, with the other third attending the Paragould campus.

 

BRTC is known for its strong technical and general education programs and its outreach to the community as an active partner and leader in workforce and economic development.  The college also provides underprepared students with developmental studies to help them to be successful in college-level coursework.  Almost 65% of our students are fulltime.  BRTC’s Distance Education program recently received top approval ratings from the HLC accreditation team for the quality of its DE classes, including online, hybrid and CVN classes with over 1,800 students enrolled in these programs.  BRTC is proud to now offer all of our degrees via distance education.  Our nursing students have a near perfect pass rate at both the RN and LPN levels.  Of our 158 staff, 76 are fulltime faculty.  BRTC takes immense pride in our faculty and staff, each of who are responsive and committed to understanding and meeting the needs of our students and the region…as we educate today’s diverse students for tomorrow’s changing world.

 

Black River Technical College is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA), which will be responsible for providing vision and direction for all student service functions including enrollment management.  The individual selected will serve as an essential colleague of the senior leadership team and the President and will oversee the activities of Admissions, Recruitment, Concurrent Enrollment, Advising, Career Pathways, Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Life, and Veterans Affairs.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The areas of responsibilities will include but are not limited to Admissions, Recruitment, Concurrent Enrollment, Advising, Career Pathways, Financial Aid, Registrar Student Life, and Veterans Affairs. The specific duties in each of these areas will be outlined and the Vice President for Student Affairs must effectively perform and manage all of these areas of responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The formal education equivalent of a master’s degree from an accredited institution with course work and experience in student personnel areas; doctorate preferred. A minimum of five years’ experience at the college level, including experience in several of the Student Affairs areas, i.e. advising, admissions, financial aid, student success, and student life is required. A minimum of three years of supervisory experience at the middle management level is also required.

 

Preference will be given to individuals with experience in community college or higher education with special consideration given applicants with knowledge of Arkansas rules and regulations pertaining to Student Affairs.

Ozarka College is seeking applications for Director of Off-Campus Operations-Mountain View.  The Director of Off-Campus Operations-Mountain View, acting under the direction of the Vice President of Administration, is responsible for providing current and prospective students with quality support services to help them achieve their education goals. Working collaboratively with the registrar, public affairs, advancement, Division Chairs and faculty, and the other student support staff, the Director of Off-Campus Operations-Mountain View provides administrative coordination and student guidance to enhance the quality of Ozarka College experience in the Mountain View service area.

Position Specific:

The Director of Off-Campus Operations-Mountain View is accountable for providing management and administrative support for operations of the Ozarka College-Mountain View site.  This position assists with student processing, recruitment assistance, data compilation, records control, and physical condition and security of the Mountain View site.

Specific responsibilities include:

Application Processing:

  • Enter application data into student electronic accounts (SONIS).
  • Enter admissions supporting documentation into student accounts such as health records, transcripts, and placement tests.
  • Create a copy of student permanent education records for the Registrar’s office.
  • Provide appropriate communication to applicants concerning acceptance status and fulfillment of admissions criteria.

Recruitment Assistance:

Counsel and advise prospective students in the absence of the Director of Admissions.

  • Respond to telephone, internet, and college fair inquiries.
  • Assist with tours.
  • Data entry of prospective student information into database.
  • Assist with prospect correspondence.

Providing administrative support:

  • Supervise the Site Administrative Assistant.
  • Supply quality control for daily operations.
  • Seek efficiency in operations.
  • Maintain professional etiquette, attitude, conduct, and appearance.
  • Provide friendly and helpful student service.
  • Represent Ozarka College in an active and positive manner.

Other:

Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President of Administration.

Qualifications:

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Accountant works under general supervision and is responsible for maintenance, analysis, interpretation, and management of financial accounting data related to accounts receivables and cash management.  This position is a labor grade C117 on the state pay plan and is governed by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, state and federal laws, and institutional policy.

Specifically, the job assignment includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Maintains accounting records to record receivables and cash received to accurately record and reflect the institution's fiscal status.
  2. Assists in the maintenance of all student account records to include 3rd party billing, scholarships, cash receipts and financial aid.
  3. Responsible for cash management to include the collection and receipting of all cash income to SAU Tech, Arkansas Fire Training Academy, Arkansas Environmental Training Academy and SAU Tech Career Academy.
  4. Close the cash register on assigned days to balance with the daily POISE receipts.
  5. Responsible for tracking and maintaining records on all programs which involve accounts receivable transactions (3rd party transactions).
  6. Serves as the campus correspondent with FACTS Tuition E-Cashier and works with the Assistant Controller in processing FACTS payments.
  7. Serves as the campus correspondent with the State Collection Setoff Agency.
  8. Initiates letters and/or phone calls on all outstanding debts related to tuition, fees and books and other miscellaneous A/R problems.
  9. Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting.
  • Knowledge of financial statements and reports.
  • Knowledge of accounting ledgers and journals.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer technology related to accounting systems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain manual or computerized accounting systems.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the provisions of laws, rules, or policies to specific situations.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals.
  • Ability to provide guidance and technical assistance to agency/institution management and staff.

Mathematics Instructor

This is a 10‑month position with full college benefits.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education with 18+ graduate hours in mathematics; previous teaching experience, preferably at a community college; evidence of ongoing commitment to improve teaching and student learning; evidence of the ability to work effectively to meet the educational needs of a diverse student body; good communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Preference will be given to candidates who understand active learning and divergent learning styles. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required, and previous use of MyMathLab and Campus Cruiser or another LMS is desired.

Responsibilities: Reports to the Associate Vice President for Learning and Instruction with responsibility for instruction of developmental- and college-level mathematics courses, student retention, assessment of student learning, service on college committees, and other duties as assigned. Work assignments may include evening and/or weekend hours.

Proposed Salary: $37,500 is entry level with competitive benefits package available including retirement; health, life, dental & disability insurance; a flex benefit plan, and tuition waivers for employee and family.

Position Announcement

Ozarka College seeks applicants for a full-time Early Childhood Education Program Coordinator and Education Instructor to begin August 2013. The position is a 9-month full time faculty position requiring a minimum 15 credit hours of instruction per semester with opportunities for additional course assignments.

The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in a full range of freshman and sophomore education courses including, but not limited to Foundations of Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Healthy Safe Learning Environment, Introduction to Education , Child Growth and Development, Math Concepts I and II, and Introduction to K-12 Technology. This position will include rotational teaching assignment at the Melbourne, Ash Flat, Mountain View, and Mammoth Spring sites as well as day, evening, and online instruction. Other duties include: participation in division activities, institutional committee assignment, advising, assessment, and appropriate professional development activities relevant for the position.

This position will include the development and implementation of a holistic recruitment and retention plan for the Early Childhood Development Program; maintaining contacts with cooperating public schools and early childhood centers; serving as a faculty advisor to Ozarka College students seeking the Associate of Arts in Teaching or Early Childhood Education degrees; working cooperatively with local early childhood education programs to enhance curriculum development and employment opportunities for students; and working collaboratively with the Teacher Education Program Coordinator. This position will be expected to collaborate with full-time and part-time faculty in the development, review, assessment, and maintenance of the Early Childhood Development program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's of Science in Education Degree in early childhood education or closely related field from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Must hold a current Arkansas Department of Education elementary, mid-level, or early childhood license.
  • A minimum of 3 years successful pre K-12 teaching experience.
  • A minimum of 1 year successful higher education instruction via distance delivery.
  • Demonstrated interest and commitment to teacher education.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer and Microsoft Office software application skills
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively with college committees, campus organizations, and other educational institutions and to be involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively with local early childhood and K-12 education institutions.
  • An understanding of the advantages and challenges for developing an early childhood education program in a rural community college.
  • Ability to design goals and assess learning outcomes.

Desirable/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated supervisory or administrative experience.
  • Experience as a Pathwise mentor.
  • Demonstrated undergraduate advising experience in a two-year college setting.
  • Demonstrated course development for on ground and distance education delivery.
  • Successful teaching experience in a higher education setting.
  • Proven experience serving a diverse working, commuting and other nontraditional student population.
